Whinny If You Love Dragons - Weekly Update
I was dreading sitting down to write this because I guess I thought that it would be boring. And you know what, IT IS. And that's fine. But I'm just going to do it anyway, cos I said that I would do it.
Iliad Progress
Here's my progress on The Iliad this week:
- 11/10/2026: 11 pages
- 12/10/2026: 8 pages
- 13/10/2026: 8 pages
- 16/10/2026: 14 pages Total: 41 pages (i.e. Books 5-7)
Stray observations (Spoiler alert)
- Book 5: I confused as to how Aneas is still alive after Diomedes threw a giant rock at Aneas and crushed his hip. Apparently he survives.
- Book 5: Diomedes is PISSED and wants to kill Aeneas but Apollo protecting him. And Diomedes keeps going at him but Apollo says: "Think, Diomedes, and give way! Don't aspire to be our equal! Immortal gods and men that walk on the ground are not the same breed!". I like that Diomedes listens and responds prudently.
- Book 6: Cute scene with Hector and his son. Paris is a lil bitch.
- Book 7: I love that every duel that I've read about is wholesome - so far, duels seem to end with both participants being like, DAMN, you a good fighter. Now we exchange gifts and promise not to kill each other in battle. What sorta diplomacy is dis?
Outside reads
- Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie came in on my holds and I just decided to do my annual reread of the trilogy. I love it sooooo much.
- Trying to get into Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett. I bought a used copy and someone else actually noticed it and got excited that I was reading it, so that was a nice moment.
Other areas of life
Fitness: I've been trying to exercise a bit more this week. Do some incline treadmill walks for a longer period of time + other misc. cardio + stretching. I do find that on days I exercise, I am usually wiped by 10pm. And I've been telling myself that going to bed early is an actual choice that I can make! Crazy stuff! So that's what I've been doing.
Food: I made a booking to eat at Gwanghwamun Mijin earlier this week with a friend, but the terrible haze that is currently assaulting Singapore meant that she had to cancel plans as she was having difficulty breathing and had to head home early. I had the option of either going by myself or incurring the $30 penalty fee for late cancellation -.- so I decided to just go and try it. I couldn't get the lunch set because I went for dinner - so I just ordered the Bibim Buckwheat Noodles ($16) and a small Bossam Pork ($15). The noodles were wonderful, but it was too much for me to finish when combined with all the vegetables. I enjoyed the Bossam a lot too topped with the kimchi. Yum yum! Although some friends think that the pork is average. I was hangry at 7pm so these noodles came at the right time. The place was quite noisy and packed close together. I could overhear what the girls next to me were talking about :S Anyhoo, I ate my noodles and pork till I could eat no more. I was thinking about dessert but the haze was really a mood killer. I decided to head home after that. Anticlimactic, but at least I got some good rest.
